Mechanical Engineering

About the Department

Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering department at Basaveshwar Engineering College. We focus on mechanical design, manufacturing, and modern engineering principles.

About the Department The Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest and largest departments at Basaveshwara Engineering College, starting with the college’s inception in 1963. It has grown over decades and plays a key role in mechanical education and research at the institute. --- Programs Offered Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering Duration: 4 years, full-time. Annual Intake: About 120 seats. This undergraduate program focuses on core mechanical engineering areas such as thermodynamics, mechanics, manufacturing, design, and fluid mechanics. Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Machine Design A postgraduate specialization focused on advanced design topics. Research Programs (M.Sc. Engg. & Ph.D.) The department is recognized as a Research Centre by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), offering higher research degrees. --- Vision & Mission Vision: To be a leading department in mechanical engineering education and research, preparing graduates who are technically skilled, innovative, and socially responsible. Mission: Provide quality technical education, encourage research, and develop students for industry, academia, and entrepreneurship. --- Curriculum Highlights The mechanical curriculum includes practical and theory courses such as: Applied Thermodynamics Fluid Mechanics Machining Science & Metrology Mechanical Measurements and Labs …as per the official syllabus. Hands-on learning is emphasized through labs and projects involving tools like CAD software and mechanical testing equipment. --- Accreditation & Recognition The B.E. Mechanical Engineering program has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), India, under Tier-I standards. The department is supported by government and industry research funding agencies and participates in quality improvement programs. --- Faculty & Research Mechanical Engineering faculty members are well-qualified and experienced, actively involved in research, publications, and national/international conferences. The department has produced numerous Ph.D. graduates and continues to encourage research activities. --- Placement & Career Outlook Mechanical students typically participate in the campus placement process, with opportunities in core engineering sectors like automotive, manufacturing, design, energy, and related fields. The curriculum and industry exposure aim to prepare students for roles in engineering, design, project management, and research. (Specific placement statistics may vary year-to-year.) --- Admission & Eligibility Admission to the undergraduate program is usually through entrance exams such as KCET, COMEDK UGET, or JEE Main. Eligibility generally includes completing 12th standard with Physics, Mathematics, and one science subjects
